Chaboku, “Tea ink”, carries a subtle warmth in its tone, somewhere between deep brown and black. In classical Japanese and Chinese ink work, the brown undertone was associated with aged ink sticks, the kind that had been stored for decades and developed their own character. Kaimei’s Kasen series reproduces that quality in liquid form.

The box label reads 最高級古墨調液墨 - highest grade, old ink style liquid ink. The brushstroke is smooth, the bleeding is beautiful, and when diluted with water the warm tone becomes visible in the wash. It can be used alone or combined with solid ink sticks.
