Kokaun Japanese Ink Stick - Sumi Ink Stick by Kobaien, Kyoto
Kobaien has been making ink in Nara since 1577. This ink stick is one of their mid-range studio pieces- serious enough for real practice, approachable enough for someone starting out.
Kokaun is a carbon soot ink with a warm, deep black tone. It grinds smoothly and produces consistent, rich ink that works well for both calligraphy and sumi-e painting. If you are learning to grind your own ink for the first time, this is a good place to start.
The green box is simple and clean. Inside is a stick that will last a long time if you use it with care.
Sourced from Kobaien’s Kyoto branch.
Comes in original green presentation box.
